Product Construction:
Unlike many other cheap stand mixers on the market today that features plastic, the KitchenAid 600 stand mixer is made out of solid-metal. The entire construction is metal, including the bowl, which is stainless-steel. In recent years the entire gear system was upgraded to also feature solid metal. - Powerful Spiral hook for bread dough and more
The PowerKnead spiral hook is included with the Pro 600. It duplicates hand-kneading action with a dynamic punching and rolling action. Your bread will have great texture and you biceps and knuckles will thank you for this improved design bread hook.
- Flat Beater for Pancakes and cookies
The included flat beater attachment is great for making dough for cookies and pancakes. It can easily be attached into the hub underneath the mixer. The job gets done fast and clean-up afterwards is easy.
- Large Wire whip
The included wire whip puts air into the mix. Use it for making marengs and fluffy cream.
Advantages
- Strong motor
With 575 watts of commercial-style performance, kneading is about as easy as whipping cream. A slide lever simply controls the 10 speeds of the direct drive transmission.
- Autopilot mixer
The transmission utilizes an electronic sensor to monitor and maintain consistent mixer speed when adding ingredients. Your peace of mind is assured with the commercial motor protection, which shuts off the mixer if there is a danger of motor overload.
- ALL in One Machine
With the attachment hub you get a mixer AND so much more. You can mix dough, grind meat, mill flour, roll pasta, squeeze orange juice, open cans, make sausages and even make homemade ice-cream. The multipurpose attachment hub is enclosed with a hinged cover, which opens for ease in installation of the many components available. It stays clean and ready to use.
- No overspilling
The KitchenAid Professional 600 also incorporates the Soft Start mixing feature. Gentle acceleration to the selected speed guarantees that you will rarely have flour puffs or splattered batter after adding ingredients and starting up.
- Manage the mixer easily
The bowl lifts and locks into place. This feature is especially attractive when there is an upper cabinet above the mixer. Since you don’t have to lift the motor head to connect attachments, it isn’t necessary to move it out. Bowl lift mixers also have more capacity, meaning you can make larger batches of dough.
- High Capacity
The six quart bowl will handle up to 14 cups of flour or 8 pounds of mashed potatoes. You will be ready to cook for an army with no fuss. The bowl has a contoured handle for ease in gripping.
Disadvantages
The KitchenAid Pro 600 stand mixer weighs in at a substantial 30 pounds. But it is what it is, and if you’ve made the decision that this is the KitchenAid model you want, you’ll learn to live with it.
The price is something that will turn off some. This is not an inexpensive machine, and if you purchase additional accessories, the price can go up dramatically. You need to be certain that the features it has justifies the price.
Improvements from last model:
KitchenAid made an improvement from the initial design. The original model had a plastic gear housing which cracked in some machines. The housing is now metal, so there is no danger of cracking when under heavy load. Whether you are purchasing a new or previously owned Pro 600, you should be aware of which model you are getting. Models from Amazon.com are of the newer kind.
Some thoughts:
If you were to have only one kitchen appliance, then you can consider the kitchenaid a safe bet. You can expand on it’s abilities as you go on with extra attachements and essentially get more then a mixer.
But, there is no getting around the fact that the price of this mixer is truly an investment. However, if you compare other machines with similar features, you will find that this KitchenAid model is far less costly. And with the improved gear case housing, it is as dependable as the KitchenAid name has been for many generations.
